A DRIVER who died when his van smashed into the barrier on a major route in Northolt has been named.

Gary Doolan, 36, from Greenford, was killed when he lost control of the Citroen Berlingo van he was driving eastbound on the A40.

An air ambulance was called to the scene after the van apparently swerved across the carriageway and hit the inside barrier, and Mr Doolan was taken to Ealing Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sergeant Dave Turner, of the Alperton Collision investigation unit, said: “For some reason it seems he lost control and hit the central reservation and then came across to the nearside and hit the railings.

“Collision investigators have been down to the scene and examined the van and we do not think any other vehicles were involved.

“This is also borne out by the witnesses we have spoken to. We are not appealing for witnesses as such, but anyone who feels they may have information which may help us can get in touch.”

A post mortem was carried out on Monday, but police are awaiting results of further tests on the body. An inquest has been opened and adjourned at Uxbridge Coroners Court.

Anyone with information can call police 0208 998 5319.
