DOZENS of police and council officers took to the streets around Hanwell today in a bid to tackle problems in the area.

Elthorne Safer Neighbourhood Team organised the partnership day with the idea of preventing and tackling crime in the area, to help residents feel safer on the streets.

As part of the operation police and people from the DVLA were stopping cars on the Uxbridge Road, outside Ealing Hospital, to check registration documents and things like car tax.

There were also several licensing visits carried out on businesses in the area, and a blitz on abandoned cars and flytipping.

Officers were also searching passengers coming through Ealing Broadway station for weapons, using portable metal detectors and knife arches, and Transport for London ticket inspectors were looking out for fare dodgers.
