THE Tory party has taken another seat on the council after winning the Greenford Broadway by-election.
Maureen Crosby, 59, the Conservative candidate, claimed the seat on the council, which was previously held by Labour group leader Sonika Nirwal.
Councillor Crosby, as she has now become, won by just 20 votes following a recount this morning at Olympia.
She polled 1,790 votes (42.8 per cent), while the Labour contender Tim Murtagh recorded 1,770 (42.4 per cent), while the Lib Dem candidate John Maycock got 529 votes (12.7 per cent).
The turnout for the election was 38.2 per cent and the result takes the ruling Tory party's majority on the council to 16 seats.
Cllr Crosby lost out to Mrs Nirwal by just eight votes in the same ward in the 2006 election, who quit the council in April to spend more time with her family.
More to follow.
