BRENTFORD boss Wally Downes has revealed his desire to make loan-signing Tommy Smith a permanent fixture at the club.
The Leicester and England under-20 forward has begun a second month on loan.
Downes said: "We would like to make it permanent but to be fair it's something we will have to cross when we come to it.
"It's not my decision as I am sure Leicester would like to keep him but he seems to enjoy it here.
"He's a goalscorer and has got a certain edge to his game."
Meanwhile, the Brentford players, whose international call-ups caused the postponement of Bees' match against rivals Queens Park Rangers last week, enjoyed mixed fortunes last Friday.
Kevin O'Conner's Republic of Ireland Under 21 side beat Switzerland 2-0 but the Welsh U21s, featuring Matt Somner on the substitutes' bench, lost 1-0 at home to Serbia & Montenegro.
And Ibrahima Sonko saw his Senegal U23s lose 2-0 to Nigeria.
Brentford beat Barnet 3-1 on penalties in Tuesday's LDV Vans match.
