TWO balaclava-clad men, one armed with a hammer, stole a case from a security guard outside Barclays Bank, South Ealing, yesterday.
They jumped out of a car, took the box and drove away, later abandoning the vehicle in Clayponds Avenue, W5.
In a bizarre twist, the robbery, in South Ealing Road, was seen by ex-Great Britain Rugby League player Martin Offiah, who lives in Ealing.
He said: “It was quite scary. It’s not every day you can say there was a bank robbery at the end of your road.
“I use that cashpoint regularly.”
Police were called at 10.44am. It is believed the robbers got into another vehicle after abandoning their car on and police are keen to talk to anyone who have seen them in the W5 area.
The security guard was uninjured in the incident and no arrests have yet been made.
Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting CRIS 2525619/14 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
