Police are looking for a serial flasher who terrorised women in an Ealing park in broad daylight.
Laura Begg, a professional dog walker from Northfields, entered the fields in Elthorne Park, when she noticed a man staring at her last week.
The man walked behind some mounds and she could no longer see him.
One of her dogs started barking and ran towards the mounds where he was hiding.
The 35-year-old said: “As soon as he heard that he came running out from behind the mounds, pulling his trousers up.”
The flasher then made his way towards the canal path and when it was safe to do so Begg spoke to Steve Lonergan, 46, who lives in a canal boat and had also seen him.
She added: “It was the middle of the day, nothing puts them off.
“It’s an attention-seeking behaviour and it’s probably a gateway to other things.”
According to a 2020 YouGov poll 18% of the British people surveyed have been flashed in a public place.
A 47 year-old-woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, spoke to Ealing Times about her experiences with the flasher.
She has encountered the park predator twice since December and reported both incidents to the police.
On one occasion, she was running down the canal and noticed a man with his penis in his hand by the M4 bridge.
The woman warned some girls who were ahead of her and walked in the opposite direction, but he followed her.
She said: “I noticed that this man was tugging at himself, and that’s not the done thing.”
The runner phoned the police straight away whilst motioning to the flasher that she was on the phone.
She added: “I didn’t want to aggravate him in any way or give him the opportunity to talk to me.
“I would have absolutely no hesitation in using my knee.”
She also spoke to Steve Lonergan about the incident.
Lonergan remarked that he feared the behaviour could escalate into something worse after chasing the man off, following what happened to the anonymous woman.
The unidentified male has walked past Lonergan’s boat and made his presence known.
Lonergan said: “I saw him while he was walking past and said to him ‘you’re the man exposing himself, get out of this park’.
“We all thought we might not see him again and then he walked past my boat on a second occasion, and actually waved at me, the cheeky bleeder, and then started shadow boxing as if to say ‘what are you gonna do?’”
The Metropolitan Police released this description of the suspect: A man, aged 20-30, of slim build. He wears sportswear – joggers, hoodies and trainers.
They believe that there have been at least four offences and have urged the public to contact them on 101 or Tweet @MetCC quoting 1850/23JAN21.
