Sunshine and the soothing sound of the sea are the key ingredients for capturing the ‘holiday feeling’ we all crave, says striking new research.
And it’s the look and feel of a destination, not geographical location, that underpins the strength of our holiday vibes as we all look to get our hotly-anticipated summer fix.
Insightful new findings reveal the best ways to taste that all-important ‘holiday feeling’, with sun, sea, cuisine and even first impressions being front and centre of Brits’ priorities.
Almost six in ten of us (59 per cent) reckon sunshine is the key ingredient to creating the perfect holiday vibes, with over half (54 per cent) also ranking the sound of the sea as a vital component.
Over two in five (43 per cent) believe it’s trying out new food or stepping off the aeroplane that best determine the strength of our ‘holiday feeling’, with 42 per cent opting for sunbathing and relaxing on the beach.
The statistics were revealed by Original Cottages – the national holiday cottage company with the local touch – alongside findings that the best way to sample the ‘holiday feeling’ is by remaining on UK shores.
And Sonia Holman, Marketing Director at Original Cottages, said: “We've always had a loyal customer base who find that ‘holiday feeling’ in the UK, and over the last 18 months, we've seen a broader group of people discover it too.
“Not only that, but they’ve told us that they’ve enjoyed it so much, they’re already planning their next UK break.’
“The results of our research highlight how perceptions of the UK as a holiday destination have changed.”
Original Cottages’ research also revealed the optimum UK locations to sample the ‘holiday feeling’, with almost half of those surveyed (47 per cent), reckoning picturesque Cornwall is the place to be.
And Cornwall is the proud home of Peranporth’s The Watering Hole beach bar – the only one of its kind across the whole of the UK and ranked as one of the country’s top ten places to get the ‘holiday feel’ by Original Cottages’ team of local experts.
Three in ten believe Devon – home to Woolacombe’s Barricane Beach Café – is the best place to capture holiday vibes, with the Lake District (21 per cent) and Wales (16 per cent) following closely behind.
Original Cottages’ wide-ranging research also showed that despite exactly half of us being deterred from holidaying in the UK because of unpredictable weather concerns, the mercury here rose to higher temperatures this summer than even sunny Marbella and Mykonos.
Holman added: “With our truly local experts on the ground, we are uniquely positioned to provide tips for an incredible staycation – packed with ‘holiday feels’.”
The findings coincide with Original Cottages relaunch which heralds the beginning of bringing its family of brands under one visual identity. To discover your next great British staycation visit: https://www.originalcottages.co.uk/blog/our-top-ten-locations-get-holiday-feeling-in-england-and-wales
