EALING Hospital volunteer Beryl Carr is named as one of the 50 happiest Britons.
The NHS’s oldest volunteer made The Independent newspaper’s Happy List, which celebrates inspirational figures.
The 100-year-old, who has worked in Friends Café for the past 20 years, was joined by other successful nominees, including a couple who have fostered more than 250 vulnerable children and a man who donated his house to Ukrainian refugees.
The Happy List was founded in 2008 to counter awards glorifying wealth or celebrity. It honours the achievements of ordinary people making a positive change to others’ lives.
Beryl said: “The great thing about volunteering is that you are helping other people but in funny way you are helping yourself as well.”
