PATIENTS in Ealing are being urged to make sure they have relevant prescriptions and to check their medicine cabinets this Easter.
The holiday coincides with a four-day junior doctors’ strike starting on Tuesday (April 110, which is expected to lead to significant pressure on hospitals.
Dr Jon Baker, Chief Medical Officer for London North West University Healthcare, said: “The bank holiday is a traditionally busy time, so it is going to be tough. We’re asking patients not to come into hospital unless it is essential.
“As part of keeping our services safe, we’ve had to reschedule planned operations and appointments. We’re really sorry if that’s affected you or someone in your family. We will rearrange your visit as soon as we can.
“For emergency care, we’re here if you need us, but please think about whether you can get adequate care from your local pharmacy team, who are capable of treating many minor conditions we see in A&E.
“Visit 111.nhs.uk if you need advice.
“We respect our junior colleagues’ right to strike and hope the two parties can come to an agreement to prevent further strike action.
“We’ll be holding the fort in their absence but expect next week to have far greater impact than during the first strike. We ask for your patience if you need our care during this time.”
