EALING Broadway shopping centre is to hold a free Clothes Swap Shop this Saturday (20) for a second time this year.
The event, in Town Square, will be run in partnership with Love Not Landfill and provides visitors with a sustainable way to recycle old or unwanted clothes in return for new items.
After donating pre-loved clothes, they will be given a maximum of five tokens to spend on other items in the Swap Shop.
At the first event in February, nearly 1,000 items were donated, including tops, jumpers, dresses and jackets, with more than 600 of these swapped. Timings are:
- 10am-noon: Drop off clothes and receive tokens
- Noon-1pm: Swap Shop organisers prepare clothing rails
- 1-4pm: Visitors can browse the items and cash in their tokens
Ealing Repair Café, a volunteer group, will also be on hand to teach people simple skills for repairing and upcycling clothing, rather than discarding it.
Andrew Rollings, centre director at Ealing Broadway, said: “We were over the moon with the results from our last Clothes Swap Shop, from customers requesting to volunteer at future events, to our retailers donating extra rails and hangers when we were inundated with clothing.
Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing Central and Acton, who attended the last Clothes Swap Shop, said: “I managed to take home some pre-loved items which are now staples in my own wardrobe.”
