UP-and-coming athletes in Ealing are set to gain much-needed support as part of a sports talent development programme.

Everyone Active’s Sporting Champions scheme, now heading into its seventh year, has helped thousands of athletes to achieve their sporting potential.

It has provided free access to Everyone Active’s 200-plus leisure sites, including Acton Leisure Centre, Brent Valley Golf Course and Fitness Centre,  Dormers Wells, Elthorne, Greenford, Northolt and Twyford leisure centres, Reynolds Sports Centre, Perivale Park Athletics Track and Swift Road Outdoor Sports Centre.

Among the athletes accepted on the scheme in Ealing this year are: Jude Bright-Davies, British Indoor Athletics Champion, and sprinter Omar Grant, Middlesex Championship gold medallist

Sporting Champions will also have the chance to receive mentoring and guidance from a panel of elite athletes.

Olympic silver medallist Colin Jackson will also continue to support the scheme through his role as an ambassador.

Jude Bright-Davies said: “I was able to incorporate more weights and gym sessions into my programme and add to the number of training days I had per week, which was really beneficial for my progression.”

Phil Edwards, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “As a leisure provider working in partnership with Ealing Council, we feel it is important to cater for all sections of the community.

“We hope to continue making a real difference to our athletes’ success and are excited to see what the relaunch of the scheme will bring this year.”
