A REPLACEMENT for the wooden bridge that spanned the Grand Union Canal between Marnham Fields in Greenford and Smiths Farm in Northolt was lifted into place today (27).
The operation took around 40 minutes and went very smoothly after the structure arrived on a lorry all the way from Wigan.
This is the final stage of a three-year project costing around £250,000, which was initiated when the oak bridge was deemed unsafe and closed to the public in early 2020.
The first canal boat went beneath the new bridge just moments after it had been placed in position.
There is more work to be done before the bridge is operational, but this should be complete by the weekend, say the Friends of the Grand Union Canal.
