SHORT-listed Liberal Democrat London Mayoral candidate Rob Blackie visited under-threat Warren Farm, Southall, to speak to campaigners about the significance of its flora and fauna.
Ealing Council’s plans to use part of the site for sport are vigorously opposed by the Lib Dems.
Mr Blackie was accompanied by colleague and London Assembly member Hina Bokhari and Cllr Gary Malcolm, opposition leader on Labour-run Ealing Council.
Mr Blackie said: “Labour's plan for Warren Farm threatens skylarks and owls that are very rare in London. It's time for the council to change its plan so our children and grandchildren can continue to enjoy this unique place.”
Hina Bokhari added: “It seems almost unbelievable that Ealing Council would even consider building on this site.
“This has become an incredibly popular retreat for residents to find a quiet, peaceful place to visit.”
Lib Dems in Ealing are urging people to sign their petition against the Warren Farm plan, which has more than 22,000 signatories.
