FIREFIGHTERS are issuing a smoking safety reminder after a blaze in Bilton Road, Perivale, yesterday (2).
Part of a bedsit, situated above a shop, was damaged. One adult left the property before crews arrived and there were no reports of injuries.
The fire is being treated as accidental.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "We'd rather you didn't smoke at all, but if you are a smoker, it's absolutely vital you ensure your cigarette is completely out when you've finished smoking it.
"If you don't, you risk causing a fire which could not only destroy properties but also cost you your life."
The brigade was called at 4.56pm and the fire was brought under control by 6.09. Three engines from Northolt and Acton attended.
