THE University of West London at Ealing is named University of the Year for Social Inclusion in the first-ever Daily Mail University Guide.
The award recognises UWL’s success in improving career prospects and life chances for its high number of students from under-privileged backgrounds.
Alastair McCall, Editor of the Daily Mail University Guide, said: “This is a university that doesn’t merely pay lip service to social inclusion. It delivers it with every new intake, offering opportunities that many simply would not get elsewhere.”
More than 60% of UWL students are the first in their immediate family to go to university.
All bar two per cent are from non-selective state schools. Nearly two-thirds come from ethnic minorities. Half come from areas of multiple deprivation and many from the immediate area.
The guide will be published this Sunday (10), available online at www.mailplus.co.uk/uni and in a supplement published with the Mail On Sunday.
