A VETERANS cycle challenge set off this morning (18) from Hanwell Cemetery.

A team of 12 riding for The Not Forgotten charity aim to cover 475 miles via Portsmouth, Poole, Taunton, Bristol, Hereford and Staffordshire - the route forming roughly the shape of the charity's elephant head logo.

The team includes servicemen and veterans with injuries ranging from a double amputee to complex PTSD.

Cycling up to 95 miles a day will be a huge physical and psychological challenge for them but should raise a lot of money and awareness for the cause, which supports more than 10,000 sick and injured veterans every year.

Hanwell Cemetery was the starting point as the charity's founder, Marta Cunningham, is buried there. She was an American opera singer who set it up 103 years ago.
