A MAKATON Christmas singing and signing session for shoppers is planned on Friday, December 15, by Ealing Community Partners' Children's Speech and Language Team.
It follows a hugely popular Makaton Flash mob in September, to mark Speech and Language Therapy Awareness Month.
From 10.30am-noon, Hannah Howell-Day and Zoe Wilkinson from the Speech and Language Team will be joined in Ealing Broadway shopping centre by Ealing Mencap and Dare2Dream.
Impact Theatre is also attending, to perform a dance to White Christmas.
The therapy team sees thousands of children and young people every year.
Some have learning disabilities, or are deaf or hard of hearing. Many have a stammer, struggle to feed and swallow, and some have issues talking and understanding language.
Using Makaton enables them to communicate with their friends and families more easily.
Hannah Howell-Day said: “This is the first time we’ll be signing Christmas carols in a public place, but we were inspired to do it after the Flash mob we did at the centre in September.”
Makaton is an inclusive, unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate.
