Two in five Brits admit they would start a DIY project if they had more time, according to research.
And with a third (36%) saying they already have at least one unfinished project on the go, the nation is now being urged to reclaim their Leap Day by using the extra 24 hours to start or finish their DIY exploits.
Four in five (80%) people admit they are interested in making home improvements – but nearly two-thirds (64%) have doubts that they can make them.
And when asked about what would motivate them to restart their projects, ‘dedicating more time’ leads the way (25%), followed by having clear, step by step-instructions (23%), great value products (21%), quick access to materials (17%) and having support from family and friends (14%).
When asked why projects get paused, needing more time was also the number one reason, closely followed by cost.
So to encourage Brits to use this pivotal extra day as a ‘You Can Do It’ day, B&Q – who commissioned the research – is offering a 10% discount on 29 products .
A spokesperson at B&Q said: “We know that 64% of people have doubts about doing a DIY project and with this new research telling us that lack of time stops people from starting or finishing them, we want to empower the nation to get started by launching the first ‘You Can Do It’ day.
“This year we have an extra day, so what better reason to tackle the projects you’ve been staring at for months.
“Overcoming that doubt and believing that you can do it, is made easier when you have products and advice at your fingertips”
Projects such as painting or decorating walls and ceilings (51%), gardening and garden maintenance (43%), and ongoing repair and maintenance jobs (38%) are the most common DIY tasks on this year’s to-do list.
For today only (29th February) B&Q is offering 10% off 29 products to help motivate you to turn leap day into a ‘You Can Do It’ day.
