Billy Harris insists his belief and focus helped him storm through to the quarter-finals of the LTA’s cinch Championships in a landmark moment for the Brit’s career.

The 29-year-old fought hard to push past France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in straight sets 6-4 7-5.

The Isle of Man's Harris grabbed the biggest win of his career against world No.32 Tomás Martín Etcheverry on Wednesday and followed that up to extend his stay in the capital.

The following day, he was announced as a Wimbledon wild card and will take to his first Grand Slam next month just as he is enjoying the form of his life.

On his Queen’s triumph, he said: “It was massive for my confidence, I came into the match knowing it was going to be very tough with his serve.

“The first set, I was thinking ‘this serve’s got to slow down’, the game was very quick and I just had to keep my focus.

“I got the breaks when I need them but I thought I played well.

“I didn’t know how I’d react coming out here today but as soon as I got on court I felt like I was getting great support from the crowd and they helped me through the match so a big thank you to the crowd.

“I managed to settle in quickly, just stayed in the zone and played a good match.”

The wild card secured his first quarter-final on the Tour and is now the third-lowest ranked Queen’s quarter-finalist since 2020 behind fellow Brits Jack Draper, ranked No. 309 in 2021 and Ryan Peniston, ranked No. 180 in 2022.

With a win in the second round, the Nottingham-born player broke the top 150 and is showing no signs of slowing down in this tournament or in the rest of the grass-court season.

Nottingham-born Harris also continued British momentum as he joined fellow countryman and British No.1 Jack Draper into the quarter-finals after he stunned Carlos Alcaraz on Centre Court earlier in the day.

He added: “It’s amazing from Jack, he’s the future of British tennis and he’s leading the way so it’s great to look at what he’s doing.

“I definitely take inspiration from that.”
