Imani-Lara Lansiquot is enjoying her moment in the sun after Team England’s 4x100m relay team were rightfully honoured as 2022 Commonwealth Games champions at the London Athletics Meet.
England bagged silver in Birmingham two years ago - but in July 2023, the Nigerian team, who crossed the line first at the Alexander Stadium, were disqualified due to an Anti-Doping Rule Violation against Nzubechi Grace Nwokocha.
That meant the five-woman England squad, consisting of Lansiquot Daryll Neita, Asha Philip, Bianca Williams and Ashleigh Nelson, were upgraded to Commonwealth champions, retaining their Gold Coast title.
A year after the initial verdict, the quintet received their gold medals during the London Athletics Meet, a Diamond League event, in front of a home crowd at a sold-out London Stadium.
“It's been a long time coming,” Lansiquot said. “As athletes, we're always on to the next chance but I think it's really important to take stock of moments like this.
“It's not often that you get a gold medal at home, in front of a home crowd, in a home stadium. It’s amazing, I’m really happy.
“I've been racing here for years and years and it is so electric every single time. To be able to have a moment like this with my friends and family here, it is like in my backyard, so this is very special for me.”

Speaking after the presentation ceremony, Lansiquot emphasised the importance of keeping sport clean, adding: “It is 100 per cent vital. As athletes, we have so much integrity and we put so much hard work into everything that we do.
“It is really special for us to get rewarded for that properly. Obviously, we would have loved to have had that moment in 2022, but it's okay. We got that moment here today.”
