THE beer and pub sector in Ealing North, which supports 780 jobs, could be at risk if the Government doesn’t support the industry, new research suggests.
The British Beer and Pub Association says pubs make just 12p a pint from sales.
Its research suggests that, in one year alone, the sector in Ealing North contributed more than £42m.
Ealing North refers to the parliamentary constituency that covers Greenford, Northolt and Perivale.
Figures published by Localis, in partnership with the BBPA, show that three in four people felt pubs help combat loneliness.
With the budget just around the corner, the BBPA is calling for a reduction in the soaring cost of doing business.
Emma McClarkin, its CEO, said: “Brewers and pubs across Ealing North are helping local people earn money and gain skills and experience, which supports communities and towns.
“From those pulling pints to farmers growing the hops, so many rely on our treasured beer and pub sector for their livelihoods and careers.”
It is calling for the Government to maintain the 75% business rates relief and to cut beer duty by five per cent.
