A WORKER from an Ealing hospital which supports women with eating disorders and mental health needs is running to raise money for a suicide prevention charity.
Greg Milik is a ward administrator at Cygnet Hospital in n Corfton Road. He has taken on a challenge to raise funds for the mental health charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).
He is joining thousands across the country in support of mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
Greg has been supported in his fund-raising by patients, who have organised bake sales at the hospital to increase donations.
He set himself the goal of running 62 miles over the course of a month to raise £1,220.
That would cover the cost of 100 potentially life-saving calls to CALM’s helpline, and he’s well on his way with a third of his goal achieved so far.
He explained: “I first saw the event advertised on Facebook, and the charity’s name really spoke to me.
“It’s been really inspiring to do this challenge with 3,500 others across the country, hearing people’s stories on the Facebook group and supporting each other.
On his running, he explained: “I gradually built up my distances to running my first 10k in the second week and my first 15k (longest run) in the third week. “
Inspired by Greg’s initiative, his Ealing colleagues rallied round, inviting patients to join the cause.
He added: “It’s been such an honour to have such kind and supportive colleagues and service users.”
