AS the country stops to mark Armistice Day this Sunday (10), Ealing people can attend a nearby service. There are three key events inn the morning.
Also, a two-minute silence will be observed at 11am on Monday, November 11, outside Ealing Town Hall.
Remembrance Sunday
The Mayor of Ealing, Cllr Yvonne Johnson, will attend the parade and ceremony at Ealing War Memorial on Ealing Green, before a service in front of Pitzhanger Manor at 11am. The King’s representative, Deputy Lieutenant Richard Kornicki, will be attending, along with council leader Peter Mason and chief executive Tony Clements.
In Greenford, the the Royal British Legion will march to Greenford War Memorial from its headquarters in Oldfield Lane South for a public service at 11am. Deputy mayor Cllr Anthony Kelly will attend, along with Cllr Louise Brett, council deputy leader.
At 10.45am at Southall War Memorial, The Green, people will gather for the two-minute silence at 11am. Attendees are then invited to St John’s Church in Church Avenue for a short ceremony and refreshments. The immediate past mayor, Cllr Hitesh Tailor, is due to attend.
Council leader Peter Mason said: “This is an important time in the national calendar for us to all come together, to pause and remember all those who have lost their lives in war.
“By coming together at memorials across our borough, we recommit ourselves to never forget the huge sacrifices made by others.”
