A WIDELY-acclaimed film documentary about the Ealing Club will be screened on Sunday (December 1) at Acton’s ActOne Cinema, followed by a live Q&A session with its director and producer.

The film, Suburban Steps To Rockland, tells how a basement club opposite Ealing Broadway station played an historic role in the development of rock and blues music when it opened in March 1962.

The screening follows the recent induction of Alexis Korner, co-founder of the Ealing Club, into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio featured pictures of Ealing, the Ealing Club blue plaque and the Ealing Broadway station sign.

Suburban Steps To Rockland producer Alistair Young said: “The event gave a major boost to the growing reputation of Ealing and west London as one of the world’s major sources of music innovation.

“Opinion leaders were reminded of Alexis Korner championing in Ealing an electric guitar blues scene that shaped the Rolling Stones, The Who, Cream, Manfred Mann, Fleetwood Mac, Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Animals and many more.”

At the induction, Rolling Stone Keith Richard recalled how Korner had introduced him and Mick Jagger to Charlie Watts during an impromptu session at the Ealing Club.

He declared: “Alexis was the father of British rock and roll. If anyone deserves to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame then it’s him.”

DJ Bob Harris added: “Alexis was this incredible father figure who was absolutely central to the development of British music as we know it today.”
