HILLINGDON is celebrating success in the annual London in Bloom awards after scooping a silver award in the large city category for the second year running.
Cllr David Routledge, Mayor of Hillingdon, collected the award at a prestigious presentation ceremony held at The Brit Oval in central London on Friday, September 8.
Part of the national In Bloom competition, London in Bloom is a campaign that aims to create a lasting improvement to London's environment.
Open to all London boroughs, the awards encourage the display of flowers, shrubs, trees and, in larger areas, landscapes, in places that can be seen and appreciated by the public, as well as clean streets and parks.
Top horticultural judges toured Hillingdon in July and assessed the quality of the borough's parks, landscapes, open spaces and verges.
Their visit included Poors Field adjacent to Ruislip Lido, roundabouts in Uxbridge town centre, Norman Leddy Memorial Gardens, Hayes town centre and flower beds along Uxbridge Road.
Cllr Routledge said: "It was a pleasure to collect this prestigious award on the behalf of the borough. Hillingdon has a wealth of quality parks, flourishing open spaces and attractive public areas all around and this achievement gives the borough the recognition it deserves."
