NORTH ACTON Tube station has won first prize in the London Underground (LU) Station Gardens Competition 2006 in the hanging baskets category.
Every year, LU Station Gardens Competition rewards station staff that go beyond the call of duty to make the Underground more colourful and prettier by designing and cultivating station gardens in their free time. This year 32 stations and one train depot across the London Underground network in 19 different boroughs competed to win one of the much coveted prizes.
Bharat Vagani, station supervisor from North Acton station said: "I can't believe it. It can be hard work maintaining the flowers in the height of summer especially as the plants needed watering twice a day but it is all worth it. The hanging baskets brighten up the station and the customers do appreciate it."
