Martin Lewis has issued a hopeful message to households across UK with suggestions energy bills won’t rise in April.
The Money Saving Expert gave the optimistic prediction on the Martin Lewis Money Show Live on ITV.
On the episode, Martin said sources had told him that “prices are not going up”.
Last week, Ofgem announced that the energy price cap will be reduced by around £1,000 to £3,280, effective from April 1.
At the time of the announcement, it was still feared that bills would rise by around £500 for the typical household, despite the reduction.
This was due to Government plans which proposed an increase to the energy price guarantee on the same date, meaning energy bills would rise by 20%.
However, on his ITV show, Martin offered some good news to homes, he said: “On Thursday the energy companies have to tell the pre-payment meter companies what their prices are going to be. And they have not increased their prices in April.
"I also have other sources that tell me prices are not going up.”
He did give viewers a scare when, as a result of a slip of the tongue, he said: “And since I did that, The Times has reported sources in government saying prices are going up and the BBC has reported sources in government saying prices are going up."
Though he quickly corrected himself saying: “Prices are NOT going up, sorry let me correct myself, prices are NOT going up in April.
"What a slip up to say it is going up. Live telly everyone!"
