Man of the match Tom Lawday hailed Harlequins’ display as a “hell of a shift” after they claimed a first away win at Worcester Warriors for six years.
Quins ran out 29-21 winners at Sixways Stadium on Friday to maintain their play-off push with the Gallagher Premiership champions sitting third after Round 18.
The win was Harlequins’ second in a row after three defeats on the bounce, and Lawday now feels his side are building some momentum.
He said: “It was always going to be tough coming up to Worcester, I don’t think we’d won here in six years so we knew it was going to be a tough game and the boys put a hell of a shift in and we came out with the win so we’re pretty happy.
“The boys have been putting shifts in over the past few weeks, unfortunately we’ve come out the wrong [side] a few times but we’re gathering a bit of momentum now, finding the wins again and we’re getting momentum and getting back into it.”
Lawday crashed over five minutes from time to secure a bonus point for Quins in a game that also saw Danny Care cross for his 100th try to become the club’s all-time leading try-scorer.
It's amazing,” said Care. “It’s something I kind of had a little eye on, obviously I’d love to break the record and get to that hundred.
“My dad was here tonight, my uncle and my cousin so it was nice to have someone in the crowd to raise the bat to them.
“I love scoring tries, it’s why I picked the ball up when I was five years old, it’s why I’m still doing it now 30 years later. “I love scoring tries, love playing for this club, I love getting wins so hopefully [there’s] a few more to come.”
Quins had to play part of the second half with 14 men after Care was yellow carded for a deliberate knock-on but were still able to control a crucial period in the game.
Care added: “I thought some of the boys stepped up massively when some idiot got sin-binned, so the boys had to really dig in with 14 men. “I thought we were great through that period, really managed the game well.”
The win puts to bed Quins’ hoodoo at Sixways and is an important win for the team ahead of Friday’s home game against Newcastle Falcons as they look to cement their top four place, something prop Simon Kerrod is looking forward to.
He said: “We know the history about not winning here since 2016 and we really needed to come out and we fought hard for that and I’m just so proud of the boys.
“Playing at the Stoop, Friday night under the lights, it’s a privilege and every time we get to do that it’s awesome.
“We’re enjoying the way we’re playing, we’re just sticking to our plan, and believing in each other and that’s what it takes.”
