QPR boss Marti Cifuentes has called on Loftus Road to be in full voice as his side look to snap their four-match losing streak against Coventry City.

The R's sit rock bottom of the Championship table after suffering a gut-wrenching 2-1 defeat to fellow strugglers Portsmouth on Saturday, a result that compounded Rangers’ winless woes as of late.

With just one league victory so far this season, Cifuentes has pleaded with the R's faithful to continue backing the team, hopeful that their 12th man can drag QPR out of their rut.

“For me, it is very important that everybody understands where we are and everybody understands how important this game will be for us,” Cifuentes said.

“I know that all of us were very disappointed after Portsmouth but I am sure that the supporters will understand that they can play a very important part of our game, they lifted our game so much last season.

“I am going to ask them for help in this moment because I know the team is not playing at the level that we want and the team perhaps is missing confidence.

“Usually, I am the first to say it is our performances that we need to lift the crowd but in this moment I think they can play a very important part in this.

“Hopefully it will be one of those days with this atmosphere that I know Loftus Road can produce in an evening game.”

Cifuentes will be buoyed by the return of midfielder Jonathan Varane going into Tuesday night’s contest, who is available for selection after completing a three-game ban for his sending off at Blackburn.

QPR will also take encouragement from Coventry’s own problems, with the Sky Blues arriving in West London on a run of five defeats in six.

And Cifuentes revealed his players are feeling the pain of their recent run of results, with hopes they can turn a page in W12 on Tuesday night.

“The players are suffering,” he added. “They are suffering because they care, which is a very important thing.

“We have a group of players that really want to perform better, they came here because they want to succeed for this club.

“We cannot just throw everything into the trash because we’ve got four defeats in a row. It is disappointing but at the same time they are working really hard and they understand that whatever we have been doing has not been good enough to get the results that we want, so I see that they are pushing more and more, and responding to those demands.

“I am the first one that is aware that whatever we have been doing has not been enough, so we need to do more and better.”
