Marti Cifuentes has called on his players to repeat their titan-toppling heroics of last season as QPR travel to Burnley this weekend.

Rangers ended a run of four straight defeats in midweek as they salvaged a point at home to Coventry City, with Cifuentes now keen to build on that result against second-place Burnley.

Despite currently sitting 21 places below the Clarets in the table, QPR’s head coach has reminded his players of the shock results they were able to pull off during their great escape last term, which included a 2-1 win away at eventual champions Leicester City and a 4-0 thumping of Leeds United.

And with the R's finally showing signs of progression, Cifuentes is hoping his side can catch Burnley cold in a bid to climb out of the drop zone.

“We are aware that Burnley are a good team in possession and we’ll have to find a good performance,” Cifuentes said.

“They have quality players and we need to prepare properly. But we know that if we do things as well as we can do, we can get three points.

“It’s what we did to beat the likes of Leicester and Leeds last season. We know it’s going to be a tough game, but I have trust in my players – I believe in them.

“We know we have a lot of work to do but I believe we can improve on the small margins to win games.”

QPR will be forced to contend with a growing injury list on their travels to Turf Moor and are without defender Kenneth Paal and forward Michael Frey, who have been ruled out with thigh and calf injuries respectively.

Defender Liam Morrison and midfielder Jack Colback, who both recently underwent knee surgery, remain out of action.

“Michi and Ken have both had scans, they will be out for some weeks,” Cifuentes added.

“We don’t know how long they’ll be out for yet but this is an opportunity for players to step up.

“We can’t feel sorry for ourselves, I’m a big believer that we need to make our own luck.

“Liam is progressing at a very good pace. Hopefully he’ll start to work with the team in the coming days and we’re all looking forward to seeing him contribute again.”
