QPR goalkeeper Paul Jones was on international duty for Wales on Tuesday night when he lined up in goal against the Joga Bonito' stars of Brazil.

The 39-year-old played the full 90 minutes of the match at White Hart Lane and was faced with the daunting task of keeping Ronaldinho, Kaka and new Arsenal signing Julio Baptista at bay.

Jones' Wales side went down fighting and their plucky resistance was ended by two second-half strikes from Marcelo and Vagner Love.

The Rangers stopper was in great form between the sticks and had earlier denied Alex with a fine point-blank save before thwarting Baptista and Kaka.

Jones said: "It's always a great feeling to run out for your country, even at my age.

"You get the chance to play against some of the best players in the world and Tuesday night was a fantastic experience.

"I made my debut against Brazil so I suppose there's something special in playing against them."

Elsewhere, midfielder Martin Rowlands is close to agreeing a three-year contract extension.

Rangers boss Gary Waddock has confirmed talks are underway with the Irish international who is in the final year of his contract.

He said: "We are going through the process of sorting out a new contract and hopefully it will happen soon.

Rowlands was badly missed over the final few months of last season but he has started this term in fine form and is back in training after missing the defeat to Ipswich through injury.

Waddock is confident the 27-year-old's future will be tied up soon.

"Martin missed a large part of last season through injury, but he has started this season very well.

"He is a good footballer and is someone we feel will take this club forward."

Rangers are back in action this Saturday when they travel to Plymouth, home of former manager Ian Holloway.
