TWO wins in a week has seen QPR climb from the foot of the table to the heady heights of 16th since John Gregory's appointment last month.

The side marked his first game in charge with a 2-0 win over Hull and on Saturday their new-found confidence saw them bounce back from going a goal down after four minutes.

Jermaine Wright gave Saints an early advantage at St Mary's Stadium, but goals from Dextor Blackstock, against his former club, and Ray Jones turned the game around before the interval.

Gregory's arrival has galvansised the club, but he said the players have deserved the turnaround.

He said: "I'm delighted with the attitude the players have shown, not just on the pitch, but at the training ground as well.

"Their committment levels have been first class and they have given me 100 per cent in everything they do."

And the new boss has reserved special praise for his two match winners.

He said: "Dexter and Ray have been superb in the last two games.

"It's difficult to single out people for praise, but sometimes it's impossible to ignore someone's contribution.

"But I've been delighted with the team as a whole.

"Our defence has looked solid and our midfield covered so much ground it was unbelievable."

Gregory did not speak to the press after Saturday's victory, to the displeasure of some fans.

On his decision to remain quiet, he said: "I didn't want to speak to the press on Saturday because I felt that the players spoke for the entire club with the football they played and the way in which they approached the game."

Meanwhile, Jones has been forced to pull out of the England Under 19 squad for their trip to Austria.

The 18-year-old has been in good form this season, netting Rangers' winner against Southampton.

But a knee injury has forced him to withdraw from England's participation in the UEFA Preparatory Tournament, which could have seen the striker playing three games in four days, against Spain, Austria and Italy.

Rangers expect him to be fit again for their match against Norwich on Saturday, October 14.

On the plus side, the club's sudden change in fortunes has convinced Marc Bircham to ask to be removed from the transfer list.
