BRENTFORD have distanced themselves from a proposed advert in the Chelsea FC matchday programme inviting fans to Griffin Park.
The club wanted to place the advert to capitalise on this week's international break, when Chelsea fans used to watching their team could find themselves at a loss.
But the advert was pulled after it was brought to Chelsea's attention.
A statement on the club's website said: "In response to recent media enquiries, it's true that we did ask our neighbour Premiership football club to feature a warm welcome to their supporters to join us at Griffin Park.
"The simple idea was for the invitation to be a fully paid for advertisment in their matchday programme. This suggested an alternative for west London football fans for next Saturday, when they have no match themselves.
"All this was managed by an energetic Bees supporter, giving her time free.
"The club fully respect Chelsea's concerns and we are sorry that our neighbourly invitation did not happen on this occassion."
