A brilliant brace from Ivan Toney earned Brentford a 2-0 win at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, as the striker made his case for a place in England's World Cup squad even stronger.

The talisman broke the deadlock midway through the first-half with a terrific flick after 27 minutes, converting Frank Onyeka's cross following brilliant feet from Bryan Mbeumo.

And the forward finished the job from the spot after the break after he was felled by Joel Veltman to take his tally in the Premier League to eight this season.

The win takes the Bees up to eighth, but how did each player fare under the lights in front of a packed-out Gtech Community Stadium?

David Raya - 8

A terrific performance from the Spaniard, who more than earned his clean sheet.

Pulled out a terrific save to deny Moises Caicedo in the first-half at 0-0 before denying Joel Veltman from close range soon after.

Produced another terrific point-blank save late on to ensure the Seagulls returned home goalless.

Rico Henry - 7

A quiet evening for the left-back, who was rarely troubled by either Solly March or Kaoru Mitoma.

The 25-year-old went about his job diligently but perhaps would have wanted to offer more going forward.

Ethan Pinnock - 7

There will be few more serene evenings for Pinnock than this outing, where veteran forward Danny Welbeck caused few problems.

For all of Brighton's possession, the former England striker saw little quality ball and was well-shackled by Pinnock on the rare occasion he did.

Mathias Jensen - 6

Another industrious run out for the midfielder, who did well against a strong Brighton midfield who saw the majority of the ball.

A cheap yellow card on the stroke of half-time was the only real blot on his copybook for an otherwise solid outing from the Dane.

Yoane Wisssa - 5

An ineffective evening for the Congolese forward, who always seemed to want a second or two too many on the ball.

The 26-year-old looked quite isolated as he struggled to impose himself in attack and it was no surprise he was the first to be replaced after 70 minutes.

Frank Onyeka - 8

A really strong showing from the Nigerian midfielder, who linked up midfield and attack excellently.

He got his reward for his consistent runs in behind the Brighton wing backs with a well-fashioned cross for Toney's opener to cap off a terrific overall performance.

Ben Mee - 6

A relatively easy night for the centre-back, who was rarely put under the cosh at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Will want to have done better with a header in the second-half that went narrowly wide of Robert Sanchez's goal.

Ivan Toney - 9

An outstanding performance from the Bees' talisman, whose case for a place on the plane to Qatar gets stronger by the day.

Opened the scoring with a sublime piece of skill to flick home from Onyeka's cross before converting the penalty he earned with aplomb.

Aside from his goals, Toney led the line with distinction to produce a performance that will have Gareth Southgate sitting up and taking note.

Bryan Mbeumo - 8

The Frenchman was a real livewire all night, even if he did not see as much of the ball as he might have wanted.

Showed terrific feet to weave through multiple challenges to set up the opener and remained a constant threat all game.

Kristoffer Ajer - 7

Solid defensively and a threat at times going forward, Ajer will be pleased with his evening.

There was nothing getting past the Norwegian at the back, while he produced some nice moments down the right flank in attack, including a terrific cross for Toney on the hour.

Vitaly Janelt - 7

A typically hard-working performance from the German, who anchored the Bees terrifically.

While he may not grab the headlines, he is such an important part of the spine of this Brentford side.

Substitutes

Shandon Baptiste – On for Onyeka 71’

Acquitted himself well to add a bit of extra steel in midfield as Brighton looked to get themselves back into the game.

Mads Roerslev – On for Wissa 71'

A similar brief to Baptiste as the Bees looked to see out the game. Filled in nicely at right wing-back as Brentford kept their clean sheet.

Sergi Canós - On for Mbeumo 80'

Had little time to make an impact but added good energy as the game ebbed away.

Josh Dasilva - On for Jensen 80'

With Jensen flagging, Dasilva's legs were needed as the Seagulls desperately sought a way back into the game.

Saman Ghoddos - On for Henry 87'

No time for an impact from the Iranian.
