Brentford boss Thomas Frank is relishing Monday night’s derby against Fulham after strong starts to the season for both clubs.
Just a point separates the two sides ahead of the Bees’ trip to Craven Cottage, with Brentford just above their West London rivals after last week’s thrilling 4-3 win over Ipswich Town.
Both sides can move into the top half of the table with victory and Frank is excited ahead of the fixture, with a strong travelling contingent expected on the banks of the Thames.
"It's a local derby and, in recent years, it has been very tight between the two teams. We have had some fantastic games against each other,” he said.
“Now, we're going to play Monday night, under the floodlights, Craven Cottage - a historic stadium - we're bringing 3,000 fans, and we’ll do everything we can for them to get the win. I'm really looking forward to it.
“We’re facing a very, very, very good opponent. Fulham have done very well over the last few years; I think Marco Silva and his coaching staff have done a top job in the way they have built them.
“They have started this season flying and they have probably deserved more points than they've got so far.
“It’s going to be a tough test - but, on the flip side, we’re pretty good as well! I’m just excited, I think it will be a top game.
"I also like that it's an evening game, I like that it's under the floodlights, I like that it's a local derby - I think that all adds a little bit of spice to it."
Brentford have been in strong goalscoring form in recent weeks, with the Bees netting five against Wolves to go with the four last time out against Ipswich.
But that has also come alongside eight goals conceded in the past three Premier League matches and Frank highlighted how both ends of the pitch have provided plenty of food for thought ahead of Monday’s match.
“I learned [against Ipswich Town]that we are very good at creating chances and scoring goals, and we need to look at some of the goals we conceded,” he added.
“Take the two goals away, and then that build up play with it, we made a mistake.
“They had three big chances in the game, and then that top cross and finish from Delap, so if you take the first two goals and a big one, then we gave very little away, but you can’t do it that way. That makes sense.
“We are definitely giving too many goals away compared to how well we defend, but I think we need more urgency, so we concede less goals. No doubt about that.”
Monday’s challenge is a Fulham side that have stuttered in recent weeks after a strong start to the campaign.
The Cottagers are without a win in their past three matches, but Frank is under no illusions as to the threat they hold.
“They also did fantastically in the transfer market: Joachim Andersen and Emile Smith Rowe are top signings,” he added.
“Adama Traoré has also had a revival and is doing quite well, [Alex] Iwobi is doing well, Raúl Jiménez looks like the player he was before the head injury.
“I also think that Joachim Andersen makes them better in defence, and Smith Rowe makes them better in midfield, so those two and Jimenez, Iwobi and Traore playing at a very high level just adds quality. The result is that they are difficult to beat.”
