Marti Cifuentes will have his first opportunity to tailor his squad in the January transfer window as Queens Park Rangers seek to mount a survival bid.
The Rs got off to a torrid start to the Championship season under former manager Gareth Ainsworth and after 14 games, they sat six points from safety.
However, since his arrival at the end of October, former Hammarby boss Cifuentes has steadied the ship and picked up three wins and three draws in his first eight games.
The Spaniard has taken QPR to within two points of safety, and with the winter window on the horizon, Cifuentes will surely jump at the chance to bolster his squad to boost Rangers’ hopes of staying up.
So, with that, here are five players QPR could look to recruit next month.
Rodrigo Muniz, Fulham
Seeking an improved output up top, QPR have reportedly set their sights on signing Rodrigo Muniz from local rivals Fulham.
Muniz has struggled for game time since his arrival from Flamengo in 2021, and TEAMtalk claim that the Rs are among a number of sides keeping tabs on the Brazilian.
The 22-year-old has Championship experience, having spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough – where he bagged two goals in 17 appearances.
And while Boro aren’t said to be interested in taking him back, Bristol City are ready to rival QPR in the race for Muniz, along with Brazilian outfits Atletico Mineiro and Gremio.
Devante Cole, Barnsley
Moving away from West London, Cifuentes could also turn to Barnsley talisman Devante Cole to solve his side’s goalscoring woes.
Goals have been few and far between for QPR this season, having netted just 20 in 22 games so far.
Cole, on the other hand, has goalscoring in his blood, showing shades of his legendary father Andy Cole with the Tykes this campaign.
Having scored 12 in 20 League One appearances, Cifuentes may choose to try and lure the 28-year-old to Loftus Road in January, providing ample reinforcement to QPR’s toothless attack.
Kieffer Moore, Bournemouth
From a League One star to a Premier League struggler, Kieffer Moore may be on his way out of Bournemouth in January.
The Wales international has seen his game time plummet this season, totalling just 85 minutes of football across six appearances with the Cherries.
However, Moore has proven he can perform in the Championship, scoring 46 times and producing 11 assists over six seasons in the division.
As such, QPR could look to reignite their interest in the 31-year-old during the winter transfer window, having pursued a deal for the striker back in 2020.
Scott McKenna, Nottingham Forest
Another former Rs transfer target, QPR could go back into the market for Nottingham Forest centre-back Scott McKenna.
Rangers held an interest in McKenna during his time at Aberdeen, but lost out on the signing to Forest back in September 2020.
While it proved the right move for the Scotland international, having enjoyed promotion to the Premier League at the City Ground, he has since been frozen out of the squad.
It seems inevitable that he will secure a move away in the new year - and with defensive reinforcements sure to be welcomed by Cifuentes, Loftus Road could be where the Scot lands.
Corey Blackett-Taylor, Charlton Athletic
Electric winger Corey Blackett-Taylor has been rising up the divisions in recent years and is currently in the form of his life at The Valley.
The former Aston Villa academy product has seven goals and seven assists to his name in League One this season, thriving on the wing of Michael Appleton’s side.
Many have touted Blackett-Taylor with a step up to the Championship, believing he could flourish at a higher level.
And with QPR’s right-wing spot yet to be claimed under Cifuentes, the prolific Englishman could be the missing piece of the puzzle in W12.
