QPR head coach Martí Cifuentes was bursting with pride after watching his side battle to a goalless draw with playoff-contending Watford.

Fresh off ending a 12-game winless streak with a midweek victory at Cardiff City, Rangers picked up where they left off at Vicarage Road, matching the hosts blow-for-blow to earn a deserved point.

The visitors produced arguably their best performance of the season against Watford, narrowly missing the chance to depart Hertfordshire with all three points after Žan Celar's effort rattled the post and Cifuentes revealed he couldn't be prouder.

"I am definitely proud of the performance and happy with the point, too," he told www.qpr.co.uk. "I said to the players that it means a lot because it comes against a team who have been playing really strongly at home.

"The second half was a bit more open, but in the first half especially we had chances to win the game. We started the game really well - it was important to continue to be strong given the week we'd had already heading into this game.

"We wanted to continue the momentum following Wednesday's win at Cardiff. That was very important to us and I think that we were excellent.

"We had two clear chances in the first half. Then we had to adjust when they (Watford) went to a back four in the second half.

"Watford have capacity to run with a lot of fast players, they were attacking more and it was definitely more difficult in certain moments.

"But we expected that and I'm happy that we still showed the capacity to win the game, with Žan hitting the post."

The result leaves QPR in 23rd and two points from safety following a run of two draws and one win in their last three games, with Rangers next in league action against Norwich at MATRADE Loftus Road.

And with fixture list showing no sign of abating and the season a third of the way through, Cifuentes praised his players and the Loftus Road faithful for their efforts following an eventful week.

He added: "We finished the game strongly. All credit to our fans who gave us strength for those final minutes. We were obviously a bit tired after the three-game week, and getting home from Cardiff at 3am on Thursday morning.

"But the way the guys competed, backed by our fans, was a good way to finish the game.

"I said at full-time that we need to focus on ourselves, and that this sort of performance has to be a reference going forward.

"We need to capitalise on our moments, that's where we can improve - if we can I'm sure we'll pick up plenty more points in the coming games.
